12YO KILLED BY OUT OF CONTROL VEHICLE

A twelve-year-old boy died yesterday after he was reportedly hit by an out-of-control vehicle while walking along the roadway in St Thomas.

He has been identified as Rijorni Taylor, who resided in Friendship Pen, in the parish.

Since the start of the year nine persons have died on the nation’s roadways, four less than the 13 recorded over the similar period last year.

A total of 376 persons died in motor vehicles crashes across the island last year.

The St Thomas Police report that Taylor was walking along the St. Thomas died from injuries he sustained when he was hit by a bus on the Springfield main road in the parish on Friday, January 11.

According to reports, a Hiace bus was travelling along the Springfield main road towards Morant Bay when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle.

It’s reported that the other vehicle drifted into the path of the minibus causing it to veer to the right of the roadway and struck Taylor.

He was pronounced dead at hospital.
