13YO IN MACHETE BEATING CASE MOVED TO ANOTHER HOME

The 13 year old girl who was seen in a video being beaten with a machete by her mother in Bath, St. Thomas has been relocated to another section of the parish.

The teenager was initially placed with an aunt in the same yard where she lived and where the beating occurred.

However, with her mother out on bail, the decision was made to place her in the care of another relative in the parish.

Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison, said the teen is attending school but is also in constant dialogue with her mother and is receiving counselling.

She is due to return to the St. Thomas Parish Court on December 4 where the matter of her permanent placement will be settled in accordance with a care and protection order.

The mother is due to go back to court on November 15 to answer to the charge of cruelty to a child.

The case came to public attention earlier this month when the video, which went viral, showed Doreen Dyer dressed only in her underwear, hitting her daughter with the machete.

The police said the incident occurred last year.
