61M USD WORTH OF COCAINE FOUND IN CARIBBEAN SEA

US Customs agents have intercepted thousands of pounds of cocaine in the Caribbean Sea.

The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency says its Air and Marine Operations team detected multiple drug-smuggling vessels with 4,735 pounds of cocaine.

This was part of Operation Full Court Press and involved interagency partners.

The estimated value of the drugs is US$61.7 million.

It is reported that the discovery was made between December 18 and December 22.

US Customs said Operation Full Court targets maritime smuggling organisations responsible for cocaine trafficking throughout the Caribbean to the United States and elsewhere for distribution.

Its area of responsibility extends from southeast Texas to the US Virgin Islands, which includes the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and a large portion of the Caribbean Sea.
