Dennis Muteyo (44) of Zvishavane who made headlines on allegations of having sex with a donkey has been convicted by a Zvishavane magistrate.
Muteyo had an act with a donkey after being told by a traditional healer that this would treat his STI.
Masvingo Mirror reported that Magistrate Peter Madiba found Muteyo guilty particularly because the witness said that the accused was doing it from a slope and from a standing position. He said indications that were held during trial proved the witness right as the position of the accused’s private parts and that of the donkey were at the same height at the spot where the crime took place.
Madiba said bestiality was a serious crime where the offender can be sent to prison but this depended on a number of factors including whether the animal involved was injured, the prevalence of the crime in that particular area and the view of the community towards that crime.
Muteyo then escaped jail because the donkey was not injured and the crime was not prevalent in Zvishavane. Madiba said this was the first report that he had come across during his several years at the Zvishavane Magistrates Court.
Madiba also exercised leniency towards Muteyo because the accused had also suffered immense humiliation in the community as the court was packed and tens of people turned up at the scene where indications were done.
Madiba then fined Muteyo $200 or three months in prison.
