Good morning.
It seems that when you have money and power, police in Jamaica do not care. They don’t investigate how you have been violated.
My story is that I worked as a trainee reporter with a small media house in Ocho Rios in 2013. The editor/manager of the company assaulted me sexually one evening at the office. I was finishing up some outstanding stories and he came there talking about needing an assistant editor. He also said it would be a good job for me. But he asked if I would be willing to just do something for the promotion.
I knew what he meant and I told him no I would not. He proceeded nevertheless and he touched me hard on my breast. I was just 19 then.
I was so scared and felt so terrified. I screamed and cried out and told him to leave me alone. He apologized and told me to be calm, but I took up my bags and left.
I went to the police station that same night and reported the ordeal. They told me no CISOCA offers were in at the moment but the matter will be investigated.
I was fired from my job which I expected.
I continued to go to the station and they told me that the investigating officer was not in on several occasions.
When I finally got to him he said he needed to further question me as something was not adding up.
I was made to feel like rubbish. I was told I was lying. I know I wasn’t. Long story short, my case went no where. Despite me speaking to several CISOCA officers. My father also told me to drop the matter for safety concerns. We were threatened in my pursuit to get justice.
My career in media never came into being as I was blacklisted. I had to move with my father to another parish, because of the threats we received.
My life has never been the same.
Alot of other girls have been abused by this man and we will not be muzzled any longer. We will be coming together as women to gain justice for the abuse we face.
Not because you are a powerful man in media means that you must threaten and pay off officers not to investigate cases.
Best of luck to u Lady cuz might ought never to beat right.
I’m very sorry to hear about your troubles sender and while I don’t know about the police part of it, you will be fighting an uphill battle in terms of proving that you are in the right & he was in the wrong where job prospects are concerned. In most instance, prospective employers just hear the wrong doers side & decide against you. So I would advise you against listing this job on your resume again. Find an excuse to fill that gap on your resume. If you need to, advance yourself academically then do so & excel in your current job to the point that even if this pervert tries to cause trouble for you again, you have people in your corner. Best of luck.
I am very proud of this young lady for standing up against this animal. It is about time Jamaica start protecting women against this kind of behavior in the work place.I would advice anybody that is being harassed to record it secretly so you can have strong evidence to fight in court.
Sender, I’m really sorry about your situation with this POS. It’s only a pity you never name de crablouse that did this to you, and shame him. My advice to you is to don’t stop praying. God is a good God, and will always open up a way for you, when you least expect it. Best of luck in everything M’Dear!
So sorry you had to go through this. He will bare his own cross soon because only good is rewarded
It’s going to be a classic he said she said case. This is why it is always best to work in companies with a HR Dept for a little protection. Some men take it upon themselves to prey on the young and naive in the workplace, I am just so proud of you that you stuck to your values and did not cheapen yourself for an article.
I am so sorry you had to go through all that. Don’t lose hope pray instead and ask God reveal to you his way to use your voice to help others. It may not be in the way you had planned (e.g. as a reporter for a media house) but be encouraged for God’s plans are greater than you can even hope or imagine. You will look back and remember these hards times as only a test for your testimony. May God bless you.
Don’t let anyone deter you. Yes, it’s going to be a difficult fight but you and the other molested ladies desebe justice! Push through darling!!
