SEVERAL DETAINED AFTER TURBULENT SUNDAY NIGHT IN MARVERLY

Several men were detained on Monday during a major police operation in Marverly, St. Andrew.

It was carried out in response to Sunday night’s shootings in the area which left a woman dead and two others with bullet wounds.

Two houses were also fire-bombed in reprisal attacks involving warring factions in Marverly.

Superintendent Arthur Brown, head of the St. Andrew South Police, said Sunday’s deadly drive-by attack was a reprisal for last month’s killing of Orland Campbell, an “area leader” in a section of the community known as “Bottom Marverly”.

He said the detainees will be questioned in relation to crimes in Marverly.

Superintendent Brown who disclosed that the area is tense, said the cops will be maintaining a strong presence to prevent more attacks.

Patricia Facey, 28, was killed when gunmen who drove up in a white Nissan Tiida motorcar opened fire on the group of women standing on Denver.

A 15 year-old student of St. Andrew Technical High School and another woman said to be in her late fifties, were also injured.

They are in hospital in stable condition.
