Murder suspect commits suicide
Just hours after the Portland police listed a suspect for last Saturday’s murder of 36-year-old painter Kadian McKenzie of a Fairy hill address. The named suspect reportedly committed suicide in St. Ann this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Garfield McDonald otherwise called Archie, a taxi operator.
Preliminary reports are that McDonald was found hanging from a tree on a property in Lewis, St. Ann.
Last Saturday at about 3 p.m. McDonald and McKenzie got into an altercation in Prospect, Port Antonio. It is alleged that McDonald used a knife to stab McKenzie multiple times in the neck.
McKenzie was rushed to the Port Antonio hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Tension was high in the relatively peaceful parish as associates of McKenzie had issued threats to take the law into their own hands if McDonald didn’t turn himself in to the police.
Portland has recorded seven murders since the start of the year.
