Six alleged members of the Spanish Town based Clansman gang who are linked to a multi-million dollar extortion racket in Spanish Town, St. Catherine were remanded on Tuesday when they appeared before the St. Catherine Circuit Court.
Donovan Richards, Germaine Richards, Omar Petrie, Tasshoma Heslop, Delroy Kelly and Kenroy Scarlett, have been charged under the anti-gang legislation.
Investigators say over the last three years, the men have been demanding money from individuals and businesses in Spanish Town.
They have also obtained properties from persons via initimidation and threats.
The cops say in October 2016, the men went into the March Pen community, demanding that persons hand over their properties to them or be killed.
A businessman resisted and his shop was torched by the gang members.
One of his employees was shot dead.
Investigators say Donovan Richards was charged in connection with that incident.
The gang members have also delivered letters to businesses in Spanish Town demanding extortion money.
Heslop was arrested in the sting operation in December collecting extortion money from a businessman.
The cops say other members of the gang are being sought in connection with the extortion racket.
The men are to return to court on March 23 for a bail hearing.
So what is the police doing about recovery of the money and property these men have stolen to enrich themselves and their babymadda and families? Why is it we never hear the police using clawback powers?
