Murders continue to climb
There has been a nominal increase in reported murders up to March 10 this year in Jamaica when compared with the corresponding period last year.
In the latest National Security Update murders stood at 277 compared with 261 for the period Jan 1 to March 10, 2017. This reflects a 6% increase for the period under review.
Shootings also reflected a single-digit increase with 245 reported incidents, compared with 239 for 2017.
The police seized 170 firearms while there was a 16 per cent increase in ammunition seizures.
Under the category serious and violent crimes, there were fewer cases of aggravated assault – a 35 per cent reduction.
Break-ins and larceny recorded a near 12 per cent and 58 per cent reduction respectively.
Reported incidents of rape declined by 16 per cent while robberies went up seven per cent and shootings two per cent.
Hopefully the decline in rape is linked to the increasing murder rate..anyhoot..I’m convinced the powers that be could care less.
