Police probing possible link between double-murder and car found in river
District Officer Bonsfield of the Spanish Town Fire Department, speaking with RJR News
The police are probing whether there is a link between Sunday morning’s discovery of a motor car in the Rio Cobre in St. Catherine, and a double murder in St James, at the western end of the island hours earlier.
Reports have surfaced that the man who died in the motor car, is said to be connected to the killing of a woman and her daughter in Rosemount, St. James.
The motorcar was spotted in the river close to Flat Bridge by passers-by early Sunday morning, and they alerted the police and fire brigade.
The Spanish Town Fire Department told RJR News that it went to the scene shortly after receiving the call, but was still probing how the car ended up in the water.
A lone male occupant was rescued from the car and taken to hospital.
Rosemount
In the Rosemount tragedy, those killed have been identified as 16-year-old Jayshenel Gordon, a student of Herbert Morrison High School, and her mother, 45-year-old Dion Smith, a gas station supervisor.
It’s being reported that they were both chopped to death by the boyfriend of Miss Smith while they were at home. He then fled the community.
