Public frustrated by closure of Criminal Records Office
Colleen Lyons, Romaine Campbell and DCP Fitz Bailey
Members of the public have expressed frustration with the closure of the Criminal Records Office in downtown Kingston.
Persons who turned up Tuesday morning at the office on Duke Street said they were unaware when operations will resume.
It was announced Monday that operations at the office had been suspended for a week because of air quality issues.
Colleen Lyons, who travelled from St. Thomas, said she was not aware the office was closed.
Another customer, Romaine Campbell, who said he travelled from Linstead, St. Catherine, also complained about being inconvenienced by the closure.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey, who is in charge of crime, said an alternative location has been identified for the Criminal Records Office but the location will have to be retrofitted before operations can resume.
He said while new applications cannot be processed at this time, there are some certificates that have already been prepared and an opportunity will be created for customers to collect them, even while the location is closed.
