A man who was charged six years ago after the bus he was driving crashed in the community of Succeed, Manchester leaving five students dead, has been declared not guilty.
33-year-old Gavon Linton, who was charged with five counts of causing death by dangerous driving, was acquitted yesterday following a seven-day trial before the Manchester Circuit Court.
Mr. Linton was freed following a no-case submission by his attorney Marcus Greenwood. Judge Chester Stamp agreed. The jury was instructed to return with a formal verdict of not guilty on all five counts.
During the trial, the prosecution called the investigating officer, the accident and reconstruction expert as well as the motor vehicle examiner.
It was reported that on April 7, 2011, Mr Linton was the driver of a Toyota Hiace bus transporting students, when he lost control of the vehicle. It crashed into a wall. Three female students of Holmwood Technical High School were pronounced dead at the scene. Another student from Holmwood and a student from Knox College later died at hospital.
