FAKE POLICE ALERT

The Police High Command says it has launched a major investigation into reports of motorists being stopped and robbed by persons dressed as police officers, travelling in an unmarked vehicle with blue flashing lights.

In a statement the High Command says it is aware of a voice note being circulated on social media making reference to the unmarked vehicle with blue lights flashing.

The High Command says invesitgators are currently probing two reports of such incidents.

It says these are being treated with the greatest level of importance and urgency and the investigations are ongoing.

The Police High Command is also strongly reminding motorists against installing and using flashing lights and/or sirens on their vehicles.

As such, motorists who have modified their vehicles with flashing lights and/or sirens that imitate those used by authorised emergency vehicles, such as police vehicles, ambulances and fire engines, are being warned to remove them immediately.

It says motorists who ignore this warning to remove the devices will not only face inconvenience, but more so the full brunt of the law, including the seizure of the vehicles to have them removed forthwith. .

Investigators are appealing to persons who may have been victims, or who may otherwise have information that can assist in the arrest and charge of these perpetrators to contact the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) at 876-937-1389.

They may also share information through Crime Stop at 311, 811 or Police 119 emergency number.
