NDECOM has launched a probe into Thursday’s fatal shooting of a two-year old boy in Braeton, Portmore, St. Catherine.
An investigation is also being carried out by the Portmore Criminal Investigation Branch.
It is reported that the child was at home with his father who is policeman.
The policeman’s firearm has been sent to the Government Forensic Lab for testing.
About 6 p.m., the police constable who is attached to Mobile Reserve went home after feeling ill. He fell asleep, following which his son found his service pistol.
The policeman awoke and saw his son with the gun. According to information reaching RJR News, the cop was trying to retrieve the firearm from the child when the gun went off.
The child was shot in the head.
The policeman was rushing the injured boy to the hospital when the vehicle crashed into a taxi along the Braeton main road.
The child later succumbed to his bullet wound.
So sad
