A 28-year-old Jamaican national, wanted for at least ten break-ins at business places in San Fernando, was arrested as he attempted to break into a jewelry store in San Fernando yesterday.
The suspect was arrested by officers attached to the San Fernando CID as he tried to enter a jewelry store along High Street at around 4 a.m.
Police said the man was trying to gain entry through the rooftop.
A team of officers, led by acting Corporal Christopher Emrith, was on mobile patrol in the area and responded to the call for assistance.
The officers surrounded the building and Emrith along with PC Collin Pereira climbed to the rooftop to apprehend the suspect.
However, the suspect jumped 25 feet off the building in an attempt to elude the officers. He suffered a broken leg in the fall.
Police said the suspect was detained and taken to San Fernando General Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
The man is expected to be charged with possession of house-breaking implements and store-breaking with intent.
The suspect was wanted in connection with at least ten break-ins in San Fernando and surrounding areas, police said.
He will also be interviewed by officers of the Southern, Central and Port of Spain divisions.
