Kate Hudson’s father has publicly disowned her and her brother Oliver.
“I no longer recognise Oliver and Kate as my own,” said Bill Hudson, in an angry interview with Sunday’s The Mail.
“I say to them now, ‘I set you free’,” said 65-year-old Hudson of his children with former wife Goldie Hawn. “I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three.”
The outburst came after Oliver, 38, posted a photo to Instagram on Father’s Day wishing his dad a “Happy Abandonment Day”.
The post, next to a photo of a young Oliver and Kate with their father, went viral and the elder Hudson said “his phone rang off the hook”.
“I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name,” Hudson told the Mail. “They are no longer a part of my life.
“Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack,” Bill continued. “He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth.”
In a move that Hudson saw as adding insult to injury, both Oliver and 36-year-old Kate posted loving messages to their long-term stepfather Kurt Russell.

“Pa, just simply … thank you. Happy Father’s Day. I love you to the moon and back,” wrote Kate next to a happy shot of the pair.

Oliver also uploaded a picture of himself with Kurt, with the caption: “Happy Father’s Day, Pa”.
Hudson, who was married to Goldie Hawn for five years from 1976, blames Kurt Russell, who has been with Hawn since 1983, on his estrangement with his children.
“When we split up, she never had a bad word to say about me,” he said. “But when Kurt came on the scene, the narrative changed and I became the big, bad wolf. I would say to her ‘Goldie, why are you trashing me and saying I’m an absent father when it’s simply not the case?’ and she’d laugh and go ‘Oh Bill, you know it makes for a better story’.”
Hudson ended the extensive interview, in which he detailed his marriage to and separation from Hawn, saying:
“Oliver could have picked up the phone and called me but he hasn’t. What shocks me is that this was clearly premeditated. He chose the photograph and posted it on Father’s Day, when he knew it would cause maximum pain. Oliver has lived in the shadow of his mother and sister all his life. Maybe he wanted to be in the headlines?
“If what he wanted was me out of their lives, then he’s succeeded. I don’t want to see either of my eldest children ever again. It’s over.”
Oliver, Kate and Hawn have yet to comment on the latest instalment of the sad and very public family saga.
HAPPY ABANDONMENT DAY —— Ouch! That was like a dagger to the heart! Sounds to me that there is a deep – rooted painful history here, and putting it on blast for everyone to know, didn’t solve the problem either.
