KIDNAPPED MANCHESTER BUSINESS MEN RETURN HOME

Two Manchester businessmen are back safely with their families after they were kidnapped by gunmen on Thursday afternoon and a ransom demanded.

The police say the men reported being tied up in a house. They were then taken into bushes by the gunmen where they were again tied up.

Superintendent Wayne Cameron, head of the Manchester Police, said one of the gunmen is in custody, while two escaped.

He said the wife of one of the businessmen was contacted by the gunmen who demanded money. She followed their instructions and withdrew the sum.

When she went to deliver the cash, the police, who had set up undercover agents, captured the suspect.

Superintendent Cameron told RJR News that the man in custody is known to the police. He was among 13 people picked up during a cordon and search operation in Grey Ground last week. At that time, he was questioned and released. It is believed he and the other conspirators are aligned to the Grey Ground gang.
