MAN BEAT MAN WID SLEDGE HAMMER AND SEH HIM JUS DID A EASE HIM OFF

There was laughter in the court after a man accused of using a sledge hammer to hit another man told the court that it was the board handle that he used to commit the offence and not “the hammer part”.

Albert Dawson appeared in court last Thursday on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm and pleaded guilty.

When asked why he assaulted the complainant, he explained that he was attacked by the complainant after he went for money owed to him.

Dawson told the court that he was contracted by the complainant to do some construction work, and because he was a relative he charged him $8,000 instead of $15,000.

However, Dawson said the complainant paid him half of the money and owed him the rest.

He said when he went for his money, the complainant “run inna him house to a knife and a tell mi bare bad words and come at mi with the knife”.

“So mi use the stock part and ease him off,” Dawson said.

The judge, after listening to the accused, decided that Dawson was acting in self-defence and set the matter for trial on May 9.

Dawson’s bail was then extended.
