MAN FORGES DIVORCE DOCUMENTS

A 44 year old construction worker has been charged with fraud after he allegedly submitted forged divorce papers to the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday.

Arnel Sampson, a resident of Portsmouth in Portmore, St. Catherine has been charged with forgery and uttering forged documents.

It is reported that Mr. Sampson went to the Constant Spring Tax Collectorate to conduct business.

He tendered a Decree Absolute purporting that the document was issued by the Supreme Court.

However, checks revealed that the divorce document was forged.

He was taken into custody and charged by investigators of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Task Force (C-TOC).

The issue of forged divorce papers coming from the Supreme Court has been a hot topic, with Justice Minister Delroy Chuck recently accusing some staff members in the civil registry of being involved in a divorce racket.

Court staff took industrial action more than a week ago to protest the minister’s accusation.

Mr. Chuck warned persons that divorce documents in their possession may be forged and they should check with the authorities before tendering the document.

The matter has been turned over to C-TOC.
