A man, who is believed to have been involved in this morning’s fire in Hopeful Village in West Kingston, which claimed the life of three siblings, is now in police custody.

The siblings have since been identified as nine-year-old Abigail Reid, a student of Iris Gelly Primary School; 18-year-old Bebita Harris, a sixth-form student of Tarrant High School; and 15-year-old Lenardo Morris, a student of Excelsior High School in Kingston.

Reports are that the siblings were asleep between midnight and 2:00 am when the incident occurred.

The children reportedly lived alone, but were occasionally checked on by a relative, because their mother is reported to have left the community due to a matter now before the courts.

Residents are insisting that the fire was an act of arson, as on Thursday, a relative, who is said to be of unsound mind, had threaten to burn the house that is occupied by the three children down.

The identity of the relative is being withheld pending further investigations.
