Amid a strong police presence, residents scrambled to save items of furniture and other personal belongings.
Some 80 persons, including children, are now homeless after fire razed a tenement dwelling on Mark Lane in downtown Kingston today.

There are no reports of injuries.

According to residents, the house provides shelter for some 30 children.

Residents told The Gleaner/Power106 News Centre that the fire started shortly after midday.

It was not immediately clear what caused it, but some residents believe it started after one of the youngsters attempted to use a stove to warm up some soup.

  1. Hope no one was injured, especially the children. These big yard, tenamant tinderboxes should be demolished..a that people do when dem love the poor—-anyways.
