RUNAWAY BAY POLICE CHARGED WITH RAPE

The two policemen from the St Ann police division who were arrested on reasonable suspicion of rape last week have been charged.

They are Constable George Richards and District Constable Andre Hoilett who are attached to the Runaway Bay Police Station.

The men were charged yesterday after a judge in the St. Ann’s Bay Parish Court ruled that they be charged by midday or released.

This followed a Habeas Corpus application filed by their attorneys yesterday.

Attorney for one of the cops, Peter McHugh, argued that his client had been in custody for ten days awaiting a ruling from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The DPP’s ruling was sent shortly after the judge made that declaration and the cops charged and placed before the court.
The policemen are accused of sexually assaulting a woman on May 21 in Runaway Bay.
