SECONDARY STUDENTS IN TRINIDAD SET SCHOOL ON FIRE

Fire broke out at the Chaguanas South Secondary School on Monday morning, while pupils were in the school’s auditorium, participating in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’ National Schools Anti-Bully Campaign.

Three pupils have been held for questioning and a fourth is being sought.

The school was evacuated at around 11.30a.m when the alarm sounded and smoke was seen coming from the a classroom located in an area known as Block E.

The classrooms are used by fourth form pupils, and three rooms were destroyed, the Express was told. Classes were dismissed for the day as fire fighters and police officers worked the scene.

The Anti-Bully Campaign function, which began at 10.30a.m. and saw 200 participants, was also cancelled.

The nearby Montrose Govenrment Primary School was dismissed at noon after pupils began complaining of feeling unwell, as a result of the thick smoke that blanketed the area.
