PORTLAND:
The person of interest in the murder of Portland East Member of Parliament Dr Lynvale Bloomfield has been released from police custody.
The male was picked up on Wednesday in Buff Bay, Portland by senior investigators.
Twenty-four hours later, he was released after being held overnight by investigators attached to the Major Investigative Division.
Meanwhile, investigators have collected statements from the person of interest, who, according to them, was cooperative throughout several hours of intense interrogation.
The person of interest had been communicating via cell phone with the late MP and the police said several audio recordings of conversations them were startling and rather disturbing.
Additionally, investigators said audio recordings from the MP’s main cell phone indicated that several demands were made by the person of interest.
He is alleged to have asked for money, a cell phone and car.
The nude body of the MP was found at his Passley Gardens home in East Portland, with multiple stab wounds, shortly before 10 am on February 2.
A helper, who arrived for work at the MP’s home, made the gruesome discovery.
A trail of blood led from the bathroom to the bedroom, where Bloomfield’s body was found.
Two knives and a bloodied vest recovered at the house, have been sent to a forensic lab for testing.
