48 Hours: Six Firearms Seized & Several Arrested
Six illegal firearms were taken off the streets by the Police between Friday March 4 and Saturday, March 5.
The seizures began about 8:00 a.m. on Friday, in Discovery Bay, St Ann. A man was reportedly spearfishing when he noticed an object on the sea bed. He retrieved the object and discovered that it was a handgun. It was then handed over to the Police.
A bar in Lionel Town, Clarendon was the scene of another seizure on Friday. About 11:20 p.m., Police Officers were making enquiries at the bar, where they observed a man behaving suspiciously. He was accosted and searched and .357 Magnum Revolver loaded with three .38 rounds taken from him. His identitiy is being withheld at this time.
Saturday’s seizures began with an operation in Salem, Runaway Bay in St Ann, about 8:30 a.m. During the operation, a premises occupied by a man and a woman was searched and a homemade shotgun, a homemade handgun and seven assorted rounds of ammunition were seized. The two have been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and have been identified as 26-year-old Khaleel Cameron of Main Street, St. Ann and 25-year-old Natoya Davis of Oracabessa, St. Mary. Their court date will be announced at a later time.
The afternoon hours saw two seizures, one in Montpelier, St. James and the other in Admiral Town, Kingston 5. In the latter, an Ak-47 assault rifle was seized about 2:30 p.m. during an operation on Woodrow Street in the community; however, no one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
One man was however arrested on Guinep Tree Lane in St James, where about 2:30 p.m., a Police Officer was walking along the roadway when he observed a man acting suspiciously. The man was searched and a Hi-Point 9mm Pistol was taken from him. His identity is being withheld at this time.
