Six teens who were charged for murder, freed
The six teenagers who were charged with the January 1, 2017 robbery and murder of an 18 year old photographer along Constant Spring Road, in St. Andrew, were freed on Thursday before the St. Andrew Parish Court.
At Thursday’s committal hearing, the parish judge ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prove a case against them.
The six, including three minors, were charged with the murder of 18 year old Chadrick Spaulding.
The adults were identified as 19 year old Deandre Thompson, who was a student at G.C Foster College, Javana Lewis and Shaquille Clarke.
Investigators had reported that the men were members of a gang of thieves that targeted persons walking along Constant Spring Road in the early hours of New Year’s Day 2017.
Mr. Spaulding was walking home when he was attacked and stabbed.
The robbers stole his cell phone and jewellery.
Defence attorneys, led by Oswest Senior Smith, had challenged the identification evidence and the statement by the main eyewitness at the hearing.
