caught trying to leave the island for Canada with fake US passports, claimed they were in search of a better life and were sold the passports by a Jamaican man whom they met on a beach in Montego Bay.
Edlush Aiko, a 27-year-old mechanic, and his wife, Enka, a 21-year-old hairdresser ,were arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport on April 20, after they reportedly tendered the fake passports to airport officials.
According to the official police report, the couple presented the fraudulent passports while trying to board a Air Canada flight to Toronto. However, they were reportedly intercepted at the gate by Air Canada agents who realised that they did not speak English.
The couple was subsequently taken into custody and charged with forgery and uttering forged documents.
When cautioned, the female accused reportedly told the police that they wanted to go to Canada to find a better life, but while in Jamaica they went to a beach in Montego Bay where they met a man who sold them the passports for US$200.
On Thursday when they appeared in court, attorney Donahue Martin told Parish Judge Simone Wolf-Reece that he had brought a Spanish interpreter but found out that the male accused only spoke Armenian. As a result, the matter was rescheduled for May 2.
The court was also told that the female accused was pregnant and needed immediate medical attention. Consequently, Judge Wolfe-Reece ordered that the woman be taken to see a doctor before remanding the couple.

Man found in teen’s room after hours
A young man who went into a woman’s house in the wee hours of the morning and stood over her 17-year-old daughter while she slept, appeared in court for damaging the woman’s window.
Ramon Campbell, of Andrews Pen Lane in Kingston, was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property for damaging the window jamb after he ripped out two of the board panels from the window to get inside the house.
The court heard that on March 20, about 1:00 am, Campbell went to the complainant’s house and, after removing the panels and destroying the window jam in the process went inside a room where her daughter was sleeping and stood over her.
The complainant’s daughter awoke from her sleep to find Campbell standing over her and shouted: “ Mommy! Mommy!” and Campbell fled.
According to the complainant’s daughter in her statement, on the day before the incident she was in her brother’s room when Campbell came to the house and told her: “I bet you nuh guh sleep” or else mi betta go round a my mother room, after she ignored him while he was speaking to her.
But the complainant said that she had told her mother about her encounter with Campbell.
Last Thursday when Campbell appeared in court he pleaded guilty to malicious destruction of property and a date for his sentencing was scheduled for May 12.
However, when he was asked about his relation to the complainant, he told the court that she was his ‘babymother’.
Campbell’s bail was extended for him to return for his sentence.

Jeans pants theft costs wholesale workers $30,000
Two male wholesale workers who together stole eight females jeans trousers from their employees, were fined $30,000 each when they appeared in court.
O’Neil McIntosh, 28, and Chevon Stephen, 25, both of Rose Town in Kingston, who were employed at a Chinese-operated wholesale on Princess Street in downtown Kingston, were fined after they pleaded guilty to larceny as a servant before Judge Simone Wolf-Reece on Thursday. If the fine is not paid they will serve three months in prison.
McIntosh was held with three trousers valued at $5,400 while Stephen was held with five trousers which cost $10, 600.
Evidence presented stated that on March 30, the was asked by their boss to assist with cleaning and restocking of goods.
Later, when the two accused were leaving the store with their bags the store owner became suspicious and requested they be searched. The items were found in bags that both possessed.
The police were summoned and they were arrested and charged.
