A 53-year-old civil servant in Katsina State, Kabir Yakubu, has been accused of raping his neighbour’s four-year-old daughter.
Yakubu of Karin kudu Quarters in the Bakori Local Government Area of the state, was said to have committed the offence on December 22, 2018.
It was gathered that the victim’s mother, Aisha Murtala, reported the incident to the police at Bakori.
Yakubu, the victim and her mother are neighbours in the same compound in Bakori.
According to the Police First Information Report on the incident, the accused allegedly lured the victim into his apartment and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
The FIR read in part, “On December 22, 2018, around 8.30pm, one Aisha Murtala of the Karin Kudu Quarters, Bakori, Bakori LGA, reported that around 5pm, Kabir Yakubu (53), of the same address, deceived and lured her daughter into his matrimonial room and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
“During interrogation, Yakubu confessed to have committed the alleged offence, contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code.”
Yakubu, who was arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, did not enter a plea.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court that investigation into the incident was still in progress and requested a new date.
The presiding magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, adjourned the matter till January 31, 2019, and remanded Yakubu in the Katsina Prison.
