WTF AFRICA- INDIAN HEMP SMOKING HUSBAND

“My lord, my husband is at his best when he smokes Indian hemp. He can smoke 20 wraps under 30 minutes and when he’s smoking, he puffs into the air. He spends all his income on this and leaves me to bear the burden of feeding the home, paying our rent and the children’s school fees. I’m fed up with such a lifestyle, please separate us.”

Aminat Atilola who got married to Femi Atilola 13 years ago has dragged her spouse before Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, claiming that he’s irresponsible and has consistently shirked his responsibilities at home.

She added that he had turned himself into a nuisance in their compound and neighbourhood because of his addiction to Indian hemp.

The plaintiff hence prayed the court to abort their union, grant her custody of their three children and make her husband responsible for their upkeep.

She further appealed to the court, if her prayer was answered, to restrict him from coming to harass her in her home or work place.

“My lord, I’m tired of living and sleeping beside a man who consistently smells of Indian hemp. My husband smokes Indian hemp like a chimney and makes our compound uncomfortable with the smell.

“He spends his money smoking and passes his responsibility of taking care of the family to me. I’m the one paying our house rent and training our children in school. He doesn’t give me a dime for food but he expects to take three square meals per day.

“Our children now imitate his reckless lifestyle and are becoming unruly, “Aminat said.

She added that:”My lord, I stopped sharing the same bed with him because he once attempted stabbing me in bed after smoking. At another time, he wanted to use charm on me before having sex with me. I stopped having sex with him after then.

“My lord, few weeks ago, he would have committed suicide but for neighbours who stopped him and brought him down from the roof. This spurred my decision to come to court, “the plaintiff stated.

Giving his judgment, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade dissolved their union and granted custody of their children to the plaintiff.

The defendant was asked to pay N10, 000 monthly as their children’s feeding allowance and be responsible for their education and health care.
