The Portland police on Wednesday night seized 15 parcels of marijuana at White River (Norwich) in Port Antonio.
The police say the marijuana has an estimated street value of $12 million.
Deputy Superintendent Rex Swearing, head of the Portland police, told OBSERVER ONLINE that about 11:30 pm Wednesday, officers attached to the Port Antonio police carried out an operation at White River, where a shack was searched and 21 bags containing marijuana found.
He said the marijuana weighed approximately 3,000 pounds.
“Two men were taken into police custody in relation to the seizure. Their names are being withheld as we are carrying out further investigations,” DSP Swearing said.
Portland’s top cop believes that the marijuana seizure has dealt a heavy blow in the drugs-for-guns trade.
