Head of the St James Police, Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, says investigators are fast-tracking the probe into the fatal shooting of nine year old Kala Bailey by a 14-year-old boy in Hendon, Norwood yesterday.
The police report that the teenager is now in custody.
According to Nesbeth, the teenager and other persons will be interviewed shortly.
Meanwhile, the police have not yet found the firearm used in the incident.
Nesbeth says investigators believe persons in the area took it and operations are being conducted to find the weapon.
“That area in Norwood is no exception, some months ago a 14 year old shot another with a weapon. We have issues with guns in St. James and certainly all over the island. We have a record of seizing weapons since the start of the year ….as a result of that we have to appeal to members of the public who have information regarding illegal weapons – to tell us,” he said
