The investigation into the case involving the six year-old girl who was allegedly being s*xually abused by her uncle, has been completed.
The case, which came to light earlier this year, raised concerns about the response time and lack of communication between the Child Development Agency (CDA) and the Office of the Children’s Registry (OCR).
Investigators from the CDA had said they were initially unable to locate the child.
Floyd Green, Minister of State for Youth, told RJR News on Wednesday that he is awaiting a report from the Office of the Children’s Advocate.
Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison subsequently confirmed that the investigation had been completed, “and we’re at the stage of finalising the report for submission.”
The report should be submitted before the end of the year, she said.
The child, who is now seven years old, was removed from her home, where she lived with other relatives, including the accused uncle, and placed in state care four months after the matter was reported to the CDA and OCR.
The uncle, a 38-year-old security guard, was charged with grievous s*xual assault.
Mr. Green reported that the child has been responding well to treatment.
