Following the stabbing and explosion of eight girls from The Queen’s school,Education Minister Ronald Thwaithes told Nationwide news that the girls will be placed in different schools.
The girls were called Mafia Girls by a teacher from the school because they were said to engage in intimidation in and outside of classes; issuing threats; taking knives to school; colluding with others off the school compound to steal electronic devices, including laptops and cell phones; and getting involved in violent fights. The leader of the girls is said to be hospitalized because of knife wounds she received during the malay. Thwaites, during his statement said that the education system in Jamaica does not give up on anyone but it does recognize that some students may have problems and will need to be placed in separate institutions. Thwaites said he met with the parents of all eight girls.
It is unclear as to why the school allowed the girls to carry on when the institution seemed fully aware of their behavior.
