A security guard was remanded when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court last week on allegations that he has been tormenting a university student by spreading rumours among her Facebook friends that she gave him a sexual transmitted disease (STD) and that he has been stalking her electronically.

The accused, Ackeema Blackwood, also allegedly tried to extort money from the complainant for him to leave her alone.

The guard allegedly started to torment the complainant after she ended what she said was their platonic friendship due to excessive texting from Blackwood.

The 25-year-old resident of Heartease in St Thomas reportedly befriended the complainant after she met him at her mother’s workplace.

The court heard that on April 20 the complainant and the accused met at a Government agency in Kingston and had a conversation, which led to an exchange of phone numbers.

However, the complainant reportedly made it clear to Blackwood that she was not interested in a relationship as she already had a boyfriend, and Blackwood agreed to be her friend.

According to the complainant, one day her plan to visit and spend the night at a girlfriend fell through and she ended up staying the night at Blackwood’s home. However, nothing sexual happened.

Sometime after, the complainant reportedly ended her friendship with Blackwood because of excessive texting.

Following that, on July 10, the accused reportedly sent the complainant a text message saying, “Mi going to your mother on Monday and tell her everything.”

The next day he reportedly sent another message demanding that she give him $10,000 to leave her alone. Blackwood also allegedly told the complainant that it was his day off and he wanted to have unprotected sex with her or he was going to spoil her reputation by telling people that she gave him a disease.

The complainant reportedly went to the police on July 13 and while she was giving her statement, the accused reportedly sent her another text message asking her to pay him $5,000 for him to leave her alone.

A sting operation was set up and he was arrested and charged with extortion.

According to the complainant, Blackwood bombarded her cellular phone with text messages and calls and she had to block him from WhatsApp.

The complainant reported that she also had to deactivate her Facebook account after Blackwood befriended several of her friends and told them that she gave him an STD.

According to the complainant, Blackwood, during one of his phone calls, told her that when he was finished with her she was going to be suicidal and asked her if she felt like she wanted to kill herself.

It was also reported that he asked her if she wanted him to kill her and then kill himself.

However, on Tuesday when the complainant appeared in court she told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that she wanted to end the matter because she was in the process of vying for a scholarship and the case was bringing her name into disrepute. But the magistrate told her she could not grant her request, as the matter was now in the hands of the law.

The magistrate subsequently remanded Blackwood after informing him that she was not going to release him so that he could use electronics to further terrorise the complainant.

Blackwood is scheduled to return to court on August 4.

  2. Nightmares of nightmares. The man clearly has psychological problems. I wonder though if the woman was giving mixed signals. How she end up at his home when her plans with her friend fell through? There seems to be have been some initial attraction there until she found out he was 100% loco.
