WARNER’S EXTRADITION PUT ON HOLD

fifa
THE United States government has indicated its desire to become a party in the judicial review proceedings against former politician and FIFA vice-president Jack Warner, who is wanted in the USA for allegedly committing a series of fraud-related offences while he held the position in the world football governing body.
This was revealed yesterday, at the Hall of Justice in Port of Spain, by attorneys representing the US government through the Central Authority during a status hearing before Justice James Aboud.
Warner is challenging the legality of the extradition proceedings against him before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar, at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court.
The proceedings have since been put on hold after Warner was granted leave by Justice Aboud on January 22 to file for judicial review.
