Police in Francistown have nabbed a 22-year-old man from Molebatsi ward in Tonota village with 27 stolen goats at Gerald Farms in the outskirts of Francistown.
The Voice reported that the suspect, whose names have been withheld pending an appearance in court, is counting his lucky stars after owners of the stolen goats were restrained from beating him to a pulp after catching him red handed.
According to information reaching The Voice, the suspect was in the habit of stealing goats, which he would allegedly slaughter to supply butchery owners and individuals in Francistown and Tonota with meat.
Confirming the incident that has left the livestock ranchers angry and agitated, Superintended Cyprian Magalela of Tatitown Police Station said the police caught the suspected goat thief following a tip off from a concerned farmer.
Magalela said police mounted a roadblock near the Francistown Sports Complex where they stopped a tinted 18-seater commuter omnibus full of goats.
“The suspect failed to provide a satisfying answer as to where he got the live animals,” said Magalela. He was immediately arrested.
He is expected to appear before the Tatitown Customary Court to answer for charges of stock theft on June 7, 2016.
