THE ancillary worker and two minors who were allegedly involved in a fracas at St Thomas Technical High School on Monday have been charged.
The minors, who were yesterday charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, are to appear in the St Thomas Parish Court on February 23.
Meanwhile, the ancillary worker, who the police have identified as 27-year-old Kadeen Henry, has also been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and is to appear in court on February 15.
The constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) report that a group of students were fighting at the school on Monday and Henry attempted to quell the dispute.
However, Henry was allegedly beaten by students.
The CCU said Henry later reported the incident to the Golden Grove Police Station.
Yesterday, a source at the school told the Jamaica Observer that Henry, who is employed as a chef and also heads the school’s cadet unit, usually intervenes in fights on the school’s compound.
According to the well-placed source, the man had separated two schoolgirls who were locked in a fight and was taking one of them to the principal’s office when a schoolboy queried his intended destination with the girl.
Henry subsequently held the boy and was taking him along when other boys allegedly attacked him, the source said, adding that some students are involved in gangs which clash from time to time.
The source disclosed that other members of staff have also been threatened by the gang-affiliated students.
An emergency meeting was convened with the Ministry of Education and teachers at the school yesterday to decide on a way forward. When the
Observer contacted the Ministry of Education, a representative said a news release would be issued on the matter. However, up to press time, no news release had been received.
