SUSPECT HELD IN JOURNALIST PETER ABRAHAMS’ DEATH

The police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of renowned journalist Peter Abrahams.

The suspect is expected to be questioned on the weekend.

Mr. Abrahams, who was 97 years-old, was found dead at his home in Red Hills, St. Andrew on January 18.

The police announced shortly afterwards that they were treating his death as a case of murder, following a post mortem report that concluded that the injuries which led to Mr. Abrahams’ death were deliberately inflicted.

The journalist, who was born in South Africa, settled in Jamaica in 1955, after spending more than a decade in Europe.

He worked with several media entities in Jamaica, including Public Opinion newspaper, Daily News, the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation and Radio Jamaica.

At Radio Jamaica he was for many years a respected commentator on public affairs.
