Man drowns at Port Royal beach; body not yet found
A 21 year old man, Jerome Christie, is suspected to have drowned on Sunday at the Port Royal beach.
Dawn Williams, the man’s mother, said about 4:00 p.m., her son and three other persons were at the beach when he reportedly encountered difficulty in the water.
She said residents immediately launched a search and rescue operation. However, they could not find him.
Speaking with RJR News earlier on Monday, Ms Williams bemoaned the efforts of security forces in assisting to locate the body of her son.
The Marine police, in the meantime, has reported that it resumed the search for the remains of the 21 year old man.
A representative of the police division confirmed that recovery efforts began about 11:00 a.m. Monday in the area the man was reported to have drowned.
Additionally, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard have begun diving in the area.
The Marine police said the search began Sunday afternoon, following the reports of the drowning, but had to be cancelled due to visibility issues.
