A senior investigator on Tuesday testified that St Andrew businessman Patrick Powell refused to cooperate with the police who requested his licensed firearm for testing in the murder of Kingston College student, Khajeel Mais.
Superintendent Clive Walker was giving testimony at Mr. Powell’s trial before the St. Andrew Parish Court.
Superintendent Walker told the Court that on July 11, 2011, he and other investigators tried to convince Mr. Powell to hand over his licensed firearm for testing.
However, the businessman reportedly refused to answer and later told them that he needed advice from his attorneys.
Superintendent Walker admitted that Mr. Powell was not able to produce the firearm as he was in custody at the time, but said he urged him to make arrangements for the weapon to be produced.
He said Mr. Powell was charged nine days later after he refused to cooperate.
Earlier on Tuesday, Dennis Wright, Chairman of the Firearm Licensing Authority, said the agency was forced to reconstitute Mr. Powell’s file which disappeared from the agency in November 2016.
He said Mr. Powell’s firearm licence was revoked after he failed to produce the weapon for inspection and renewal.
Mr. Powell was freed of Mais’s murder last year.
