The Meteorological Service has extended the flood alert issued for all parishes until 5 o’clock Sunday morning.
This as a broad area of low pressure has now formed over the western Caribbean while a Tropical Wave remains across Jamaica.
The Met Service says shower activities associated with the area of low pressure are showing signs of organisation and warns that gradual development is expected to continue as the system moves slowly northwestward.
The Met Service says atmospheric conditions will remain unstable and deteriorating weather conditions are expected to persist across the island through to tomorrow morning.
It is projected that light to heavy showers will continue to affect sections of all parishes this evening and tonight.
A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for the low-lying and flood-prone areas of Kingston, St Andrew, St Thomas, St Mary, Portland, St Ann, Trelawny, Manchester, Clarendon and St Catherine.
This means that flooding has been reported or will occur shortly.
A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Elizabeth, St James, Hanover and Westmoreland.
The Met Service is warning fisherfolk and other marine interests to be cautious as strong gusty winds are likely in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms, particularly over the waters west and south of Jamaica.
Is there anyway the Metservice can be more proactive in prepai/warning Jamaicans? We get that dem not the weather channel but it seem like a lot of reactive info comes from them after the fact!!
