“Wangiri” telephone scam no longer targeting Jamaica
The police are reporting that the Wangiri scam which emerged last weekend is no longer targeting mobile phone users in Jamaica.
Head of the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch (CTOC) Assistant Commissioner Clifford Chambers, has based the conclusion on the efforts of the police and because there have been no more reports of the scam.
“Investigations have not revealed any new complaints. I think that fact that law enforcement has been on top of it and the telecommunications providers put notifications out to the general public. That was enough to inform those who have been affected to be on the look out …….,” said Chambers.
Meanwhile the CTOC head says the police will continue to collaborate with international law enforcement agencies.
“It’s a direct communication of law enforcement point to point contact, so this and any other emerging situation along with continuous monitoring with other related activity …..he said.
