A post mortem conducted on the man who was fatally shot by a security guard at the staff residence of the Bahia Principe Hotel in Runaway Bay, St. Ann last month, has revealed that he may have swallowed cocaine pellets, one of which ruptured.
The St. Ann police this week released the post mortem report for 25 year old Jermaine Planter, who was from Clarendon.
Superintendent Gary Francis, head of the St. Ann Police Division, told RJR News that 40 pellets of cocaine were discovered in the body of the man. He said 38 were found in dead man’s stomach, while two were found in his intestine.
One of those found in the intestine had ruptured, and this police believe may have caused the man to behave in the psychotic manner described by witnesses to the incident at the hotel.
Superintendent Francis said a file has been handed over to the Narcotics division for further investigation, after which, it will be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling in the matter.
Reports are that Mr. Planter breached the fence to the Bahia Principe Hotel on October 6.
A security guard tried to accost him, but he began throwing stones.
The guard persisted in trying to subdue Mr. Planter, but he did not relent.
The guard opened fire hitting him
