A woman, Mojisola Damilare has brought a divorce suit before an Oyo State Customary Court based in Mapo, Ibadan.
Mojisola in the suit accused her husband, Aderibigbe Damilare of neglect and abandonment. She thus urged the court to put an end to their relationship and give her custody of their only child.
“When my husband and I were about getting married, he promised me heaven and earth. I was glad I made the right choice, but five years after we got married he’s yet to fulfill his promises.
“He has completely failed as the breadwinner. Our marriage is blessed with just one child, but he found it burdensome fending for us.
“He cared less about me and our child. He was hardly ever at home and even when he was, he stayed aloof.
“I fed and clothe our child from my little income while he transferred the responsibility of our child’s training to me. He doesn’t know till date how much our child is paying in school.
“We argued and fought over his care free attitude towards me and our child but instead of changing he complained that I nag too much.
“He left home three years ago without a leaving a word about his whereabouts. He abandoned me and our child and didn’t bother to know what becomes of us.
“If our child and I could face and overcome those harrowing experiences since he deserted us, it therefore means we don’t need him any more.
“I, therefore pray the court to put an end to our relationship, “she concluded.
Aderibigbe agreed to divorce but refuted all his wife had said.
“My lord, I took care of my family to the best of my ability, but my wife was never satisfied with all I did. She wanted me to live beyond my means and I told her I would not.
“I have been committed to our child’s training in school and have never for once defaulted in paying his school fees.
“My lord, my wife is wayward and shameless. She loves flambouyant lifestyle and therefore runs after men. I reported her to her parents, but they were always in support of her.
“I left home because I couldn’t stick her promiscuous acts, “the defendant said.
After he had listened to both parties, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade dissolved their union and gave custody of their child to the plaintiff.
The defendant was directed to pay the sum of N5, 000 as the child’s monthly feeding allowance and be responsible for his education and health care.
It is funny how the easiest way that some men take the heat off of themselves is to call a woman a whore. Im glad that a divorce was granted.
