When he had come near the den to Daniel, he cried out with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you constantly serve, been able to deliver you from the lions?” Daniel 6:20
Many who had died this year whether of natural or unnatural causes were alive on the 1st of January with high hope, aspirations and dreams. They set out goals to accomplish in the course of the year. Some even made elaborate New Year resolutions and swore to abide by them. Others who had lofty ideas enrolled for training programmes to empower themselves for the task ahead. Some others probably mortgaged some property they had to access finances they needed for the execution of their plans. But somewhere in the course of the year, the enemy threw a fatal punch at them that cut short their lives, hopes and dreams.
A woman who was pregnant on the 1st of January and looking forward to the birth of her precious bundle of joy went into labour and died trying to give birth. A man got up on a fine morning, took his bath, dressed up, had some breakfast and kissed his family good bye as he left home for work.; a few hours later, his shattered body was being deposited in the mortuary from the scene of the fatal accident he had as he was driving to the office. A little boy began running a temperature when he got home from school and after eating, his mother gave him some paracetamol and asked him to go and lie down for a while; the mother goes to check on him and finds him stone cold dead. A young woman is kidnapped by hoodlums who rape and assault her to death.
We could spend a whole day recounting how precious lives that began the year were painfully and tragically cut short by the enemy but what we must not forget to do is thank God for the fact that we are still alive; it is by His grace that we are still alive today. The bible says it is in Him we live and move and have our being. It is not because you are perfect or more prayerful that you are still alive today; It is simply the mercy of God that has foiled all attempts the enemy made against your life; remember that the devil is like a roaring lion that is going to and fro looking for whom to devour. But the Lion of the tribe of Judah in His infinite mercies stopped the roaring lion from consuming you. You need to thank God for life.
Liberation thought: My life is hid in God in Christ Jesus.
