A major military operation is now under way in St James.
The details of the operation are not immediately available.
However, it is in response to a surge in shootings and murders in the western parish.
The latest incidents occurred three hours apart near the round-a-bout to the Sangster International Airport on Tuesday leaving one man dead and three others seriously hurt.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared that tough new anti-crime measures are coming and begged for understanding and tolerance.

He declined to elaborate, but his press secretary Naomi Francis said an announcement would be made in a matter of days.
St James has been of particular worry in the past few years.
It ended 2017 with a record 332 murders, that’s 67 more than reported in 2016.
On Monday, the Prime Minister met with the National Security Council to discuss the issue of crime and the Government’s response.
The issue was also discussed at the Cabinet Retreat last week.
Obviously if you ah kill people near the airport the authorities will take it to another level, hurt the tourism and you hit them directly in their pockets

I am not affiliated with any political groups, however, I am trying to rationalized how my Jamaican people putting the blame on this Government when clearly they inherit this monster from the previous administration who encouraged scatters to take people land in Mobay and turned these said land in shanty towns with a bunch of illiterate Ghetto people who feels entitled. When did this scamming started? Gangs? and now the infiltration of Guns on the streets? No one is blaming the arrogance of OUR people who choose to kill each other and the communities that hide these criminals. IT IS NOT Andrew’s fault for our own illiterate behavior, Let them kill each other, None of these acts of violence is Random, None, just a bunch of germs who get up everyday and want power and easy living while blaming “uptown” for their own Lazy incompetent destructive, no moral having demonic ways, and even if you put education in front of these “youths” they refuse to uplift them self and blame the system. Give them a Gun Amnesty Mr. Prime Minister after that whoever get caught with one, chop off them neck right in sam shape square. Shame on our people.
So now they decide to act when a travel advisory was issued!
Worried that the bread and butter(Tourism) of JA will be affected?
JA needs a purge from top to bottom…A lot of us overseas want to retire in the land of our birth, but because of the BS that’s going on there, people are reluctant!
Yeppers, all di blood of the innocent could not motivate them to take drastic action, it took travel advisory from di US and shootout a airport to change things. Once dem precious tourism threatened they jump to action, forget the lives of the thousands of innocent people who have died over the years. White ppl joy and peace more valuable that local ppl. Anyhow, may this be the beginning of lasting change whatever the motivating factor for the change.
This may sound a bit cruel…But no arrest, once they are found with a gun or they’re engaged in a “shoot out”, take no prisoners, just kill!
Trust me these young youths in JA now are so heartless…Just wipe dem out and ask questions after. Even on social media they are posting their high powered weapons – SMH!

Long time tho should have happen and also soldiers need to be in Kingston, Ocho Rios , Portland , Clarendon as a matter of fact every parish must have both police and soliders mix and them to work the streets to help keep both Jamaican citizens and visitors in the country safe.

Agree!!!!! The stupid police in Jamaica cannot figure this out. They also staff their police station with 90% on day duty and 10% on night. Most of the killing is taking place after dark.
They need random stop and search, especially cars with 3 or more young males. Civil rights must take a back seat. I hope these soldiers start cordon and search, with metal detectors for buried guns.
