400 PPL DETAINED IN STATE OF EMERGENCY

More than 400 people have reportedly been detained since the State of Emergency was declared in St. James a week and a half ago.

Assistant Commissioner Ealan Powell, head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force Operational Command in the parish, disclosed that 450 people have been processed and released in the aftermath of the Prime Minister announcing the State of Emergency on January 18.

Thirty-three detainees remained in custody up to Saturday.

Eleven wanted men have been charged with serious crimes such as murder, shooting and rape.

In an interview with RJR News, ACP Powell said the police are ensuring that persons who are not wanted for offences are quickly released from custody.

He said the police are determined to ensure that the rights of law abiding citizens are protected under the State of Emergency.

The Cornwall Bar Association and the Public Defender’s Office had expressed concerns about the conditions under which detainees were being held.

  1. Well that’s 33 persons who would have otherwise not been picked up under normal policing conditions. The State of Emergency seems to be reaping success with the exception of the whole missing lasco fiasco.

  2. Thank God, my hopes is that this is done throughout the whole Island, JAMAICA LAND WE LOVE. Please don’t question the way in which they are getting the Demons of the streets (something drastic had to be done). Unfortunately the innocent will suffer but it’s for the greater good, they promised to release them after they are cleared. Stay strong my people better days are ahead

  3. Good job!! However I think they need to pull a Hitler and go from house to house, cuz we know nuff gone in hiding.
