MECHANIC FREED AFTER BEING ACCUSED OF RAPING HIS STEP DAUGHTER

A 52 year old Kingston-based mechanic who was accused of having sexual intercourse with his step-daughter, when she was 12 years old, was freed this week when he appeared before the Home Circuit Court.

The seven member jury deliberated for nearly an hour before returning the unanimous not guilty verdict.

Prosecutors reported that between 2007 and 2010, the mechanic assaulted his step-daughter.

However, the matter was not brought to the attention of the police until last year when the complainant was 22 years old.

At the trial, defence attorney Peter Champagnie, suggested to the complainant under cross examination, that it was only after she was fired as a secretary at his client’s mechanic shop that she chose to fabricate a story.

The mechanic, who strongly denied the allegations, called two of the complainant’s aunt as witnesses.

The women testified that their niece had behavioural problems.
