A man accused of killing his relative by setting him ablaze three years ago was offered bail on Thursday.
Nicholas Johnson, 31, was offered bail in the sum of $800,000 when he appeared before the Manchester Parish Court.
He was taken into custody three years ago for the January 8, 2015 murder of Miguel Campbell in Clark’s Town, Manchester.
It was reported that the men had a dispute when Mr. Johnson threw gasoline on Mr. Campbell and set him ablaze.
His cousin succumbed to his injuries five months later.
There were no eyewitnesses to the incident and the defence, led by attorney Shauna-Gay Mitchell, challenged the statement reportedly given by Mr. Campbell.
At the committal hearing, the attorney questioned whether Mr. Campbell signed the statement.
In granting bail, the parish judge ordered that a handwriting expert verify the signature.
The hearing continues on June 15.
