COBURN GARDENS RESIDENTS PROTEST POLICE KILLING

Residents of Mahoe Drive in Coburn Gardens staged a fiery protest along a section of Hagley Park Road in St. Andrew Friday morning.

The residents are claiming that a man from the community was killed in cold blood by the police on Thursday.

However, Superintendent Gary Francis, Commanding Officer for the Hunts Bay police station, said the man was killed after he engaged the police in a shootout.

He said a firearm was seized along with ammunition.

The matter is being investigated by the police along with the Independent Commission of Inquiry (INDECOM).

Angry residents lit tyres and old furniture near the Three Miles intersection in protest.

This temporarily impeded vehicular traffic.

The road has since been cleared and the residents addressed by the police.

  1. Maybe the deceased was innocent but since Zekes i have to wonder how many of these protests are staged (ordered) by Dons

  2. How can this be a shoot out when they took him from his bed. This is just another work of the corrupt police force. The dead man and his female cousin had arguments and she went down by hunts bay and tell lies on the youth for policr to kill him. Bare in mind the dead man his the brother of royan Mahoney the victim of a police shooting too. A police officer was sentence to 15yrs for his shooting. However that police won his appeal and is now out on bail after doing 3 yrs. And a facts me a talk.

  4. I remember when an incident took place wid police and bus driver, and the driver colleague come on news come nearly bawl blood proclaiming him fren innocence. Only fi see video surface of the so called innocent man a behave real badddd. That incident was the nail in the coffin for me when it comes to believing certain types of civilians. Yes, there are some bad cops. But we are also a very slack nation with some deep seated issues. We lie bad and almost have no moral compass but who to blame? As a people we have been through a lot. We have classism, colorism, sexism, and every ism at work with not enough tools.
I guess we’re going to continue this behavior until people have only photos of what our country used to be. Natural disasters don’t have to waste theirselves on us, because we’re doing a fine job at destroying ourself.
